The Philharmonic Society of Orange County is dedicated to the cause of music—especially that music which is among humankind's great cultural achievements. The Society champions music that enriches the soul, uplifts the spirit, excites the intellect and stimulates curiosity. The Youth Programs of the Philharmonic Society offer some of the most extensive array of music education experiences in the United States today. With the harp decline of the arts in our schools, the Philharmonic Society steps in where the educational system leaves off, providing high quality presentations to over 200,000 of Orange County's children each year. All Youth Programs are provided to our children free of charge due to the generosity of our volunteers and contributors. Working in harmony, the Philharmonic Society Committees and staff create new adventures each year to help strengthen the minds and hearts of the children whose lives we enrich with our programs. The Cruise of Lights® helps support the youth and music programs. Our concerts and in-school music experiences include:
GRADE	PROGRAM
K-1	Music & Movement: Lively teacher training workshops directed by a music specialist helps teachers learn to integrate music and movement into existing curriculum
2	Disneyland Resort Salutes the American Band: Introduction to band music & instruments by the Disneyland Band® with special guests. Second graders get excited about becoming musicians as the Disneyland Band® and various Characters introduce instruments that make up a band and trace the heritage of American Band music
3	Music Mobile : Equipped vans travel to schools to introduce the students to discover their innate musicality as they play instruments in an orchestra
4	Residency: A one month extensive arts experiences to complement social science/history curriculum
4-6	Meet the Musicians : Upper graders in virtually every elementary school in Orange County assemble to meet professional musicians from one of 17 string, brass, woodwind, and percussion groups. Students learn how musicians combine their instruments' unique tone colors to create the magic of ensemble performance
5	Concerts for 5th Graders : Great composers come alive to a host program of music, dance & song for fifth graders, featuring Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra
6-12	Special Concerts: Educational presentations by the Philharmonic Society's Concert Series Artists. International orchestras and conductors from the Philharmonic Society concert season join the list of specially created performances for middle and high school students
9-12	Art & Music : High school student travel to the Orange County Museum of Art for a program in which professional musicians related music of a given period to corresponding social, technological and artistic developments. Museum docents lead tours of the correlating art exhibit
